(Antioch, CA) – The Antioch Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the launch of its new publication website at http://www.villageprofile.com/california/antioch/.

This interactive site features the editorial, pictures and design elements of the Chamber’s recently published, full-color community profile and membership directory. Included on the publication website is a link to a free downloadable eBook – an exact replica of the print publication in digital form, complete with links to member and advertiser websites. In addition, users will find links to the Chamber website, the publication’s advertiser directory and the Chamber’s searchable membership directory, available at www.vpmobile.us, where users search member businesses by name or category, access contact information and easily connect directly to business websites.

The eBook is downloadable to computer desktops and on-the-go via most wireless, web-enabled devices – generating added Chamber, business and community exposure to a worldwide audience, anytime, anywhere.

City Council Opening Remarks

Question 1: The local economy seems to have settled into a new, lower level of revenue compared to pre-recession levels due to many reasons including lower property values. Antioch’s population of 110,000 people still require at least the same level of police, water and other critical services. Due to the limited resources our leaders will need to prioritize. As you look at the budget to balance our resources what are your three highest priorities?

Question 2: The City of Antioch is currently struggling to meet the expectations and demands of the Community. How do you plan to increase revenue and/or reallocate funds into higher priority elements of the budget?

The sense of being “less safe” impacts residents, businesses and everyone who comes to the City. What will you do to really make a big change in community safety? If you plan to hire more police officers, where do you plan to get the resources to pay for the increased salaries? Please be specific on your proposals for improved safety as well as your financial recommendations.

Question 4: Highway 4 is in the middle of a historic construction project that is likely to bring many changes and new opportunities to Antioch. In the next year, highway 4 will be widened and accessible to the urban centers to our West. Unfortunately, many business areas on the western side of the city, such as the Somersville area, are experiencing high vacancy rates and the properties are often older. Further, redevelopment as a tool is no longer available to Cities like Antioch. Specifically, what opportunities will the new highway 4 bring to the City, and specifically, what do we as a City need to do to maximize these new opportunities?

We have seen all of the local changes and a consultant has identified East County along with several other locations for our consideration. We have seen many negative changes in the City due to public safety problems, trash related problems, home foreclosures, vacant homes, absentee landlords, and business closings. We are smart enough to understand that times are hard and public revenue is going to remain scarce. Convince me that I should vote for you over your fellow candidates and how can you assure me that you will make big, positive changes in the interests of the residents of this City during your 4 year term.

The Chamber is open again Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at 101 H Street, Suite 4. During the recession, hours were scaled back to Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
